Private Pilot
The private pilot rating is your first step into the wonderful and exciting environment of helicopters. As a Private Pilot, you may conduct personal business and pleasure flights with friends and family. The minimum time required to obtain a private pilot rating is 40 hours of flight time with a minimum of 30 hours in a helicopter. These are the basic FAA minimums, and depend upon several factors such as the frequency of classes, and the individual's ability. Training will require additional time above the minimum. The average cost is $11,000 to $16,000.

- Pass FAA third class medical
- Pass the FAA Private Pilot Helicopter written exam
Cost:
- Helicopter rental : $275/per hour dual. (10 hour block rate: $2600)
- Ground instruction $45 per hour
- Complete Private/Commercial Pilot Kits are available: $350
- Written Exam Fee: $90
- Examiners Fee: $500
Add-On Private Pilot
The Add-on Private Pilot rating is for the pilot who already holds an FAA a fixed-wing private pilot license. There is no written exam required for the Private Pilot Add-on.
Requirements:
- 30 hours minimum helicopter flight experience, which includes: 20 hours of dual instruction, 10 hours of solo flight.
- Must show proficiency in operations, special procedures, normal and emergency procedures in a helicopter.
- Hold a current FAA third class medical
Cost:
- Helicopter Rental: $275 per hour. (10 hour block for $2600)
- Ground instruction $45 per hour
- Books based on need.
- Examiners Fee: $450
